This research is entitled "Comparison of Characters in Novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and its Film Adaptation" This research aims to identify the differences that exist in the adaptation of novels into films. Data collection is done by reading the novel, watching the film adaptation, analyzing the main characters, and noting the differences in characters in the novel and film adaptation. Data collection uses a qualitative descriptive method. The study of adaptation theory as an approach in this analysis, to see the differences and similarities of the main characters such as Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, and other characters in both media. Through various aspects of research such as character development, dialogue, culture, etc., this study highlights character development, reader and audience interpretation, and views on social culture in novels and films. The results of this study show that the differences and similarities in the novel and movie adaptation can affect the interpretation of the audience, which can change the interpretation of the delivery, and social criticism in the original source. The results of this study are expected to provide new insights into the influence of media adaptation on the interpretation of characters in literary works.
